چکیده

The Center for Telecommunications at Stanford University (4) in partnership with the Stanford Center for Professional Development (6) has designed and deployed an experimental system for delivery of Stanford courses in multimedia format to distance learners using the internet as well as two experimental, ATM based, high-speed network testbeds. This configuration is designed to prototype the emerging broadband communications infrastructure in the United States and elsewhere. The courses are stored on servers and made available to distance learners on-demand. The user interface is implemented on the World Wide Web. Issues of systems integration, educational effectiveness, and economics are under study as part of the project, called ADEPT (Asynchronous Distance Education ProjecT). The project is funded by the Sloan Foundation (5). In this paper, ADEPT is described along with its experience to date.1

Model-Based System Development for Asynchronous Distance Learning

The recent advances in multimedia technology such as the high-speed communication networks, large-capacity storage devices, digitized media, and data compression technologies have drastically changed the way learners communicate with their instructors and with each other, especially in distance education. With the innovation of new network and Internet infrastructures and the development of mul...

A project to investigate the feasibility of delivering on-demand distance education to the desktop, known as the Asynchronous Distance Education ProjecT (ADEPT), is presently being carried out. A set of Stanford engineering classes is digitized on PC, Macintosh, and UNIX platforms, and is made available on servers. Students on campus and in industry may then access class material on these serve...

Automatic Phase Advancing in Switched Reluctance Motor by Employing an Electronic Governor for a Desired Speed Angle Profile

Switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive has remarkable characteristics that make it attractive for high-speed applications. As the motor's speed increases the shape of the current waveform changes in such way that limits the production of motoring torque. At high speeds, it is possible for the phase current never reaches the desired value due to the self e.m.f. of the motor, therefore, the torque...

Impact of Distance Learning Using Videoconferencing Technology on Student Performance

Distance learning is defined as a program in which enrolled students may receive part or all of their education at a geographic location different from the point of content organization and for which the final award (ie, degree) is “equivalent in standard and content to an award program completed on campus.”1 Distance learning technologies in higher education are being increasingly used and con...

Considering High School Students’ Experience in Asynchronous and Synchronous Distance Learning Environments: QoE Prediction Model

Early identification of relevant factors that influence students' experiences is vitally important to the educational process since they play an important role in learning outcomes. The purpose of this study is to determine underlying constructs that predict high school students’ subjective experience and quality expectations during asynchronous and synchronous distance education activities, in...
